How to Accelerate Results through Strategy Execution
September 10-11, 2008
Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront
Virginia Beach, VA
Seminar Structure
During the seminar, you’ll learn about each step of the “Strategy Execution journey” in multiple ways to reinforce your understanding:
- Hear about each of the high-level steps involved in linking strategy to execution
- Apply each step during hands-on exercises for a hypothetical company
- During each step, see the results of the exercise portrayed within Strategy Execution software, helping you see how a deployed system would look
- For Day 2 of the seminar, select 3 different workshop topics, for in-depth time on topics of interest.
- One of the workshops on Day 2 (offered multiple times) is a “Cascading YOUR Scorecards” session, during which you will be guided through the process of cascading scorecard objectives, measures, and targets for your own organizational area of responsibility.
- Day 2 also has time built in for you to select an optional 1-on-1 consulting session with an ActiveStrategy Executive.
The seminar schedule includes ample networking time, allowing you to explore session topics with the experienced executive instructors, as well as senior managers from other organizations engaged in Strategy Execution.
Schedule
Both days begin with full buffet breakfast, starting at 7:30 am on Wednesday and 8:00 am on Thursday. Wednesday sessions go from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, followed by a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception. Thursday sessions start at 8:30 am and will conclude around 2:15 pm, at which time you may sign up for an optional 1-on-1 consulting session. You will be asked to choose a session for each time slot on Thursday when you register. This allows you to pick topics most relevant to your role in your organization.

Thursday Workshop Session Descriptions
1A: Lean Concepts - Omitting Waste to Improve Performance: This is an overview of the set of performance improvement methodologies called Lean, which originated at Toyota, but can be applied to virtually any process to reduce or eliminate waste and/or reduce cycle time. Learn to apply several of the most important Lean tools, which can help an organization lower costs, improve efficiency, and ensure optimal utilization of critical resources.
1B/2B/3B: Cascading/Creating YOUR Scorecards: This session gives you time to actually work on your own organizational scorecard(s). We will provide you with pre-work for this session, which will help you think through some of the fundamental strategic elements of your organization or area of responsibility, then we’ll guide you through next steps, based on your own situation, during the session. You’ll have ample time to ask questions and get real work accomplished!
1C: Aligning Employees’ Personal Goals to Strategy: In this workshop we will talk about strategies for building employee-level scorecards that will actually help drive the corporate or organizational strategy. We’ll discuss what makes an effective personal goal, various options for creating alignment, and the mechanics involved in reviewing the goals.
2A: Executive Intro to Six Sigma Performance Improvement Tools: This session provides a high-level overview of the systematic performance improvement methodology known as Six Sigma, which primarily focuses on reducing variation in a process to reduce defects and improve quality. Learn about the DMAIC steps of Six Sigma and how to use them to systematically define problems, identify root causes, and implement lasting solutions.
2B: See 1B above
2C: Intro to ActiveStrategy Enterprise Software: If you would like to see how a Strategy Execution framework can be automated to enhance its impact, attend this session. We’ll show you how the basics of how the software – which was designed from the ground-up to support performance excellence and strategy execution – works.
3A: 1-on-1 Consulting Sessions: Sign up for a 30-minute slot to talk about your own strategy execution journey, challenges, issues that have stalled progress, or ways to accelerate your efforts. Only two sessions are available during the workshop, but more begin at 2:15.
3B: See 1B above
3C: Advanced ActiveStrategy Enterprise Concepts: This session is helpful for existing ActiveStrategy software clients or for people who have already seen an introductory demo. This session will share some of the more advanced aspects of the system, such as Program Group management, advanced measure capabilities, Stoplight Charts, and Personal Goals.
